Westwood Neighborhood Update: Highlights from 9/29/26 WCA meeting
NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECTS & COUNTY ISSUES
- Underground electrical lines: Dominion has indicated that some homes previously left out of the underground project have now been added, but there are still exclusion areas. The project is expected to take approximately two to three years. About every third house may have an approximately 3-by-4-foot electrical box placed in the front yard. Existing backyard poles and wires may remain for services such as Verizon. Please contact Amanda Tickle directly to inquire about your property and any other Qs: amanda.c.tickle@dominionenergy.com or go here http://www.dominionenergy.com/underground
- Potential Amazon delivery drones: A Henrico County meeting is scheduled for October 13. WCA is asking whether the proposed drone activity will be included on the agenda. The project would also require FAA approval: the County may have authority to place restrictions on operations. WCA reaching out to Dan Schmitt for more info.
- Bremo Road speed-bump reflectors: Damaged reflectors near the speed bumps are creating an unsightly condition. WCA is requesting County maintenance.
- Fitzhugh Avenue potholes: Potholes between Morningside Drive and West Club Lane, near the Devers Road area, will be reported through the County service portal. To report a pothole or road issues, go to the County Info page of the WCA site and find the link under County Services: https://westwoodrva.com/resources/
- Spring cleanup truck: The former County service for collecting neighborhood cuttings was discontinued after staffing difficulties during COVID and has not resumed because of cost.
COMING UP IN WESTWOOD
- New-neighbor welcome: WCA plans another round of welcome bags with cookies and information about the benefits supported by neighborhood dues. Volunteers are needed to hand them out.
- New Member Mingle: A casual welcome gathering is planned for 6:30 p.m. before the next 7:00 p.m. WCA meeting. Additional details will be shared closer to the date.
- Halloween in the park: A neighborhood pizza party is planned for Saturday, October 31, one hour before trick-or-treating, in the driveway at 6103 W Club Ln. WCA will provide pizza, and a neighborhood photo is planned. Neighbors who receive little trick-or-treat traffic are encouraged to bring a decorated table and hand out treats near the Park or near where the party is planned.
- Saturday walking group: A neighborhood walking group is being considered for Saturday mornings in October through early or mid-November, with a proposed start time between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. Watch for more information by email.
- Holiday decorating: A Christmas decorating contest and judging are being planned. A separate neighborhood cookie exchange is also expected, although it is not a WCA-sponsored event.
COMMUNITY NOTES
- Neighborhood signs: WCA discussed refreshing the Westwood signs with paint, mulch, and low-maintenance plantings. Planting is expected in spring 2027, with native and perennial options under consideration.
- Neighborhood directory: WCA is exploring the addition of a resident directory to westwoodrva.com.
- Wildlife sightings: Neighbors reported recent sightings of a fox near Lee Avenue and Bremo Road, as well as opossums and raccoons elsewhere in the neighborhood. Please enjoy wildlife from a safe distance and avoid feeding wild animals.
